Marcie LaCerte's profile

Animation: "Quartz News"

I created approximately one billion hours of animation for Quartz News. This was back in the day of Facebook News when Mark Zuckerberg's cash flowed freely into newsrooms pivoting to video. While the pivot was widely maligned by journalists, as a young animator fresh to the workforce I personally relished the opportunity to regularly pump out five minutes of explainer content every single week for an entire year—it really helped my portfolio.

I also pitched and co-produced this episode of Quartz News with Molly Rubin. I created all graphics and designed all sets. We went through a lot of plastic eggs.

This was the mood board I created. Here were my overall aesthetic goals:

- social media dystopia
- rainbow 🌈 gradients + Black/white
- distinction between explainer aesthetic ✍️ and internet content aesthetic 🖥
- chaotic internetty aesthetic, broken up with simple surreal drawings
- hyper digital
